When we think of a light evening snack, we often think of a packet of fried chips or Kurkure. However, it is time to think of something healthier, as we are already aware of the ill effects of these snacks all around us. This is where snacks like fox nuts are gaining popularity. In the Asian countries, they are also known as phool makhana (because of their flowery appearance).

Makhanas, also called fox nuts, or lotus seeds, come from a plant called Euryale Fox which grows in the stagnant water of wetlands or ponds in Eastern Asia. They have been used in Chinese medicine since 3000 years and find an important place in the science of Ayurveda too.

Not only this Makhana is also had significance in religious ceremonies in India and is a popular 'fasting' dish prepared during Navratri and other occasions. Today we are going to tell you about Makhana’s health benefits. As makhana is not only good in taste but it is good for health.

Makhana have many health benefits:

  • The amount of fat in the makhana is very low, so eating the makhana will help you too lose weight without any fear you can easily do it.
  • The toxins of the body are removed by eating the fox nuts, so eating makhana also provides relief from kidney problems.
  • Makhana has high amount of fiber in it, so it strengthens our digestive system and helps to digest food easily.
