Thyroid is of two types that is hyperthyroid and hypothyroid. Hyperthyroid leads to weight loss. Hypothyroid leads to increased weight gain, constipation and skin related problems. Today we will tell you about some foods, which can cause hypothyroid. If you are a victim of hypothyroidism then it would be better to avoid eating these foods.

What is Hypothyroidism?

In this thyroid gland is not activated, so T3, T4 hormones do not reach the body according to the need. Because of this, the weight of the body suddenly increases. Always feeling lethargic. The ability to fight diseases in the body decreases. Irregular period, swelling on the face and eyes, constipation. This disease is found more in women between 30 to 60 years of age.

Soya Foods

Soya foods such as tofu, tempeh and soya milk increases the risk of hypothyroid infections. Indeed, its consumption hinders iodine absorption in the body, thereby increasing its risk.

Raw leafy vegetables

Although vegetables are beneficial for health, but some green leafy vegetables such as spinach, mustard greens and black (Kale) etc. if consumed raw or in high amounts, can increase the problem of hypothyroid.

Coffee and green tea

Do not drink coffee or tea immediately after having the thyroid medicine. This may cause problems in thyroid gland. Apart from this, keep a discrepancy between calcium-rich foods such as curd or milk and your medication as it can increase your problems by modulating the thyroid gland function.

Gluten Foods

Gluten-rich foods can increase thyroiditis by creating inflammation. It would be better if you consume them in even a small amount. Instead you can include whole grains in your diet.

Processed foods

Refined and processed foods can also increase the problem of hypothyroidism. It would be better if you stay away from them. Avoid eating ready-to-eat snacks and food, potato chips, cookies, cakes, hot dogs like snacking staples etc.


Nuts like peanuts, pine nuts and almonds can also cause problems for hypothyroidism, as well as for people suffering from goitrogenic disease. However, if your body does not have iodine deficiency, then you can consume it in a limited amount.
